2011 Volunteer Recognition
On May 19, Island Connections honored its many generous volunteers and entertained local senior residents with popovers and tea at the Jordan Pond House. Thank you to Jordan Pond House Operations Manager, Michael Daley and Dining Services Manager, Gabrielle Martina for sponsoring this annual event for our organization. The JPH servers did an excellent job. Approximately 170 guests, including 12 seniors from Swans Island, weathered rain and wind to attend this popular spring outing.
Board president Anne Heisey presented the David P. Evans Memorial Award given annually to our volunteer(s) of the year. Sarah and Grover Nevells of Bar Harbor were honored for their years of outstanding and dedicated service. During the first four months of 2011, they provided 115 rides, which included 12 Bangor trips. They are also our "go to" drivers
for disabled neighbors in need of the Island Connections' wheelchair accessible van. Learn More>>
Special recognition was given two other volunteers for their exceptional contributions to Island Connections. Anne Heisey, awarded Bass Harbor resident Kathe Simons "Rookie of the Year" for generously donating many hours of service during her first year of volunteering.
Southwest Harbor resident Debbie Nale, also a first year volunteer, was recognized by John Lawrence, Acting Director, and Mary Parker, Transportation Coordinator, for her wide spectrum of volunteering from office software administration, delivering hot meals for Meals on Wheels, transporting neighbors and for being a substitute transportation coordinator.
We appreciate and thank all of our volunteers!
