Sarah and Grover Nevells

Grover and Sarah Nevells receive the David P. Evans Memorial Award from Board president Anne HeiseySarah and Grover Nevells joined Island Connections as drivers in the later part of 2008.  They moved to Bar Harbor as full-time residents in 2007 when Sarah finally persuaded Grover to return to his home state after many years away.  A promise that he would never have to shovel snow did the trick.

Island Connections has been a good fit for Sarah and Grover's "down-time."  Grover always enjoyed driving.  In fact, he has driven for the Island Explorer bus service each summer since 2005.  Sarah works part-time at the Hannaford Supermarket and rises early to prepare the donuts and muffins during the busy tourist season.

Living in Bar Harbor has been a welcome change after many years in the Baltimore Washington area where they raised their family, which included three sons and two daughters.  Grover worked for the Department of Defense and later at the Social Security Administration while Sarah was involved in church and community endeavors as well as keeping the children in rein.

Now, Sarah often hikes the trails and carriage roads throughout the year and enjoys photographing the ever-changing scenery of MDI.  Grover likes hitching up their small trailer and heading out on the road for a few days.  They also occasionally go canoeing on the quiet ponds and lakes of Maine.

The Nevells feel that Island Connections adds a dimension to their lives that can only be found in a community which truly cares for all its members.

The pleasure of being able to meet and converse with so many individuals while transporting them to various places around MDI, as well as on the mainland, enhances the couple's retirement years immeasurably.
