Restaurants across Mount Desert Island are showing their community spirit by participating in Dine-Around-Day, Friday, July 23rd. The annual event benefits Island Connections, a non-profit that provides transportation and social support for Island seniors and disabled residents.
“As our population ages and adult children need to adhere to job schedules, calls for help are growing,” said Island Connections Executive Director Chris Keefe. “ This winter and spring we provided 37% more rides than last year.”
Participating restaurants will donate a portion of the proceeds from meals served on the 23rd to Island Connections.
“This event is a great way for people to enjoy a delicious meal at one of our participating restaurants, while doing something positive for our community,” said Keefe.
For over ten years, Island Connections has coordinated the efforts of a network of volunteers to drive neighbors in need to healthcare appointments, grocery stores, food pantries, and community centers for socializing and exercise. Island Connections also provides social support through care calls and friend-to-friend visits.
“We rely on donations to provide these important services, so we greatly appreciate the generosity of these community minded restaurants,” said Keefe.
