Demand for transportation assistance continues to exceed available volunteer capacity. To help ensure everyone can access essential services, we've compiled a list of additional resources that are available in our community.
Downeast Transportation
Downeast Transportation provides year-round public bus throughout Hancock County. They offer round trip service from Bar Harbor to both Ellsworth and Bangor five days a week.
They also operate a local Bar Harbor shuttle with stops at Harbor Hill, Rodick Lorraine, and Malvern Belmont, providing transportation to Hannaford.
Modivcare
Mainecare members are eligible for free transportation to medical appointments through Modivcare. Rides must be scheduled in advance and are available for appointments both on and off Mount Desert Island.
If you are eligible, we encourage you to use this service so that limited volunteer resources can remain available for those who have no other options.
Wal Mart Grocery
Delivery
Many may not realize that Walmart in Ellsworth now offers grocery delivery to Mount Desert Island.

While there are delivery fees, Walmart+ members receive free delivery on eligible orders. Some find that combining Walmart delivery for staple items with less frequent trips to the local Hannaford for fresh produce is a good way to save both time and travel.
Mount Desert Nursing Association
Mount Desert Nursing Association provides in-home nursing, physical and occupational therapy, and a lending library of medical equipment.

Carroll Drug Store Prescription Delivery
Carroll Drug provides free island wide prescription delivery on Mount Desert Island on weekdays Monday through Friday. Orders should be placed before 12 noon for same day delivery. Deliveries leave the store at 3 p.m.
